Goodbye 2014!

It might be a little early to start welcoming 2015 but I really can't wait! Not that 2014 was not good for me, on the contrary. It was actually a very nice year in which I sorta tested the water. And now that 2015's upon us, I have every intent of diving in!

In my latest novel series, I've learned to do something rather fun: a bullet point account of the ending year! Let's try it in real life! ^_^
So, in 2014, I have:
  • celebrated our ten-year anniversary with my boyfriend;
  • seen my beloved Florida one last time before my aunt and uncle sold their house and moved back here;
  • seen New York City for the first time (and loved it!);
  • witnessed the publishing of my fifth and sixth novels;
  • learned with sadness about the unexpected ending of one of my series...;
  • proudly won NaNoWriMo as I had promised myself;
  • found two new friends (and beta-readers hihi) with whom I'm becoming very close;
  • written my first English novel ever;
  • renovated my entire website so that it would include an English part;
  • passed the pre-auditions for The Voice (our version) but didn't make it to the next round;
  • had my first painting lessons and painted many a canvas;
  • finally gotten a treadmill to start 2015 on the right foot!

What about you? What does your bullet point account of 2014 look like? :)

'Tis the most stressful time of the Year!

OMG! How is it that Christmas is already showing up on the horizon!?!?
Ok, it's officially the Holiday season.... 'cause I'm officially panicking!!!! Fortunately, I'm almost done with the presents and their wrapping. What's left is finishing my painting, decorating the apartment, putting up the tree, grocery shopping, tidying and cleaning up the place, cooking Xmas dinner... and there was something else too.... the smallest thing, let's see....... oh yeah! FINISHING MY BOOK!!! :(

I haven't even OPENED the doc in like 3 days... :( I'm starting to think that I won't make it. That I'll have to push my deadline to New Year's instead of Christmas. If a read-thru was the only thing this book needed, it could have been done by Christmas but, pasting it in Scrivener, I have found oh-so-many gaps! This book really need to be revisited by the planning side of my brain (which has been snoozing for so long now). So much work needs to be done on it that I fear I won't be able to do it all in five days... Oh well, I'll clear most everything else out of the way first and see how much time is left for me and my novel.

I would like to apologize to my writing buddies, though, who were looking forward in holding my novel for Christmas... I really wanted to make it work but yeah... Life happens. :(

Back to work!

So!
Took a couple of days off from writing... Got an indigestion, a treadmill and a backache out of it! LOL Also ordered groceries on Saturday but half of it was not delivered so, yeah... I'm basically glad to be back to some normality; back to work! :D

NaNo has left me an unexpected present: backache. That's something that runs in the family and I really did not consider it seriously enough while doing NaNo... I did not move much and now, I must have overdone it at some point cause I cannot bend anymore :-S Oh well, I've had this before, I can handle it. Will just need some patience, time, Advil, muscle cream and precaution! :P But I will NOT see this spoil my desire to start using my 'new' treadmill right away! ^_^ (It's not really new, it's actually many years old but I just got it so it's new to me! haha)

The craziness of Christmas has not hit me yet: I didn't put up the tree and half the presents are not even bought (and the other half is not wrapped! haha) I guess that'll strike me this week or next week! o_O Oh well... One thing at a time and besides, Christmas will show up for me the same time as it does for everyone else uh? :P

Well, I'm off!
I will edit this post later to let you know how my day has been and how far I've gotten with the rereading of Terra Fae! As a Christmas present to myself, I wanna be done with it by December 24th! So, let's get back to work!!

(Just for fun -- and because I love pictures --, here are a few pictures I took this weekend. ^_^)

Yeah, we don't give Maples enough water, apparently...
He loves to lick the condensation off of the windows...
Here's a picture of the second morning of the snowstorm.
Still had a 30 cm more to come that day...
And here's an epic picture of Maples asleep...
Facepalm/headdesk level: Grand Mastery!

----------------------------------------------------------------

Well, it is now 5PM and I have tried... But it would seem that my brain needs to think things first. I've got questions that need answering before I can think of reviewing my book. And it ain't gonna happen today. So I'll take a break tonight and who knows, tomorrow I might be back on track!

Until then, have a good evening/day/night to you all!

Oh. My. God...

It's done...
It's done! My novel is done!!! o_O

I was not even planning on writing today but, waiting for the repairguy to show up (which he finally did an hour an a half later than the appointed time), I found out I was missing my characters. So I opened my document just to see what was going to happen and... turns out, I'm done! I've written the end!

Ok, the text does not reach 80k yet since it's just a first draft, but I expect things to change as I reread it so it might get there. In pure numbers, I wrote 1 369 words today, reaching a total of 71 849 words! Of course, like I said, these are not definite numbers as I can move stuff around, add and remove scenes, etc. Perhaps I got to the ending too fast or did not give some characters enough room, but the first draft is DONE!!

YIPPEEEEEE!!! :D

(I won't post an excerpt as most of today's work was revealing spoilers so...... Sorry about that. But I'll let you know how the editing is going!! :D Yay! Also, I will remove all the excerpts I've posted here in the next few days... Sorry about that too!)

EDIT: Look at what my awesome friend Rachel did for me to celebrate the end of my first draft!! :D
Thanks Rach! You're the best ! ^_^

Another 'fun' scene! ^_^

Phew! It's almost bedtime and I'm really tired but I still gotta shower and all that jazz...

I had a rather crappy day, I'd say.
I woke up early feeling nauseous. Then after an hour, I finally could eat, only to fall asleep on the couch right afterwards!! o_O
Because of that, I missed Rachel's hello on Skype and seeing as she had a busy day, I could not talk to my buddy the whole day. *sad face*
After that, I still had to make phonecalls and organize the Holidays 'celebrations': my parents are divorced so... now I've got two families who won't talk to each other... Instead, they place my sister and I between them and we have to play interprets! ....anyway.
I finally got to writing around 2PM which was about the time the oven repairguy was supposed to show up again with the piece he was missing the day before. So I wrote with one eye on the window and one ear on the doorbell... (Needless to say there are probably huge holes in my story that I'll have to fix later...) It was only at 5PM, seeing as he had still not shown up that I called him. He said he's been trying to call me all day long but no one picked up! (After checking, turned out he had the number wrong...) He said that, on account of the still-ongoing snowstorm, he could not make it to half his clients today. And I was one of them... So, no oven until tomorrow. Hopefully.

As for writing, I finally managed to bridge all my scenes but then, I realized I had like 2k words under a capitalized label saying 'FOR LATER'... Most of its content had already been used in the story so yeah... I had to delete it, setting me back a big 2k words... :(

BUT, in spite of aaaaaaaall that, I did reach my 70k milestone before the weekend, like I wanted!!!!!!!! :D So proud!!!! (Yeah, I'm a pretty stubborn person...)
Uh, the numbers are a little fuzzy because of the deletion but, in all likelihood, I've written about 5 500 words today reaching a grand total of *trumpets* 70 480 words!!!!! :D
As a reward, I treated myself to another sexy encounter between Ulie and Xeres. ^_^
And seeing as you guys seem to like reading those, I'll make that scene today's excerpt!
Happy reading!! :D

(P.S.: Dunno if I'll be writing tomorrow and/or Sunday... We shall see! But don't worry if there are no blog post; I'm fine! Just busy... ^_^)
-------------------------------------------

The fifth morning dawned on the shelter. Ulie woke up early, her dreams having been filled with images she knew she would never be able to bring herself to share! She dreamed of Xeres and Quinton in situations that, even though she wished would happen, she was sure to never be a part of!
            Since Quinton was lying in a bed near hers, she felt unspeakably ashamed just seeing him! Oh boy, this is going to be a very long day, she thought. She scurried down the ladder. Kaylia had fallen asleep on the table but Xeres was still awake and sitting there. He stared at Ulie with the most serious face she had ever seen him do. Was he… resentful? Like a scolded child?
The morning sun was hitting the room through the tall grass and the hidden window, bathing the town crier in a golden angel glow. He looked perfectly… perfect. Way too close to how she had seen him in her dreams! Ulie’s heart started racing… She had to get out of there!
Feeling an overwhelming unease wash over her, Ulie hurried outside. She welcomed the morning's brisk breeze with a sigh of relief.
From where she was standing, she could not see who was guarding the northern side of the hill but it was easy to guess when you knew who was still asleep in the shack: Handersen and Reizu were the two down by the campfire.
Ulie stretched to try and chase away the images of her dreams when the door to the shelter opened behind her…
She did not have to turn around. She knew who it was…
She still had her arms up in the air, frozen in the movement until two hands sneaked on her hips from behind, waking a violent shiver in her entire body. Ulie lowered her arms slowly as if any sudden move could break the spell of the moment. Without a single word, Xeres brought his body against Ulie’s back. Half-awake, still swimming in the last foggy, sensual images of her dreams, the teenager’s brain could not come up with anything to say or to do. All she could think of was to let it happen.
Xeres’s left hand disappeared from her hip and reappeared in the nape of her neck. In one, teasingly slow movement, he swept Ulie’s hair away from the right side of her neck, giving her plenty of time to realize what was going on. The teenager’s breath grew short and her legs shook a little when she felt the town crier’s breath on her skin. Xeres softly grazed Ulie’s left shoulder and arm with his fingertips before putting his left hand back on her hip.
As if she had already lived such a moment before, Ulie closed her eyes: something inside of her knew what was going to happen and she wanted to savor it in full. She even tilted her head to the left a little…
Slightly tightening his grip on her hips, Xeres approached his face from Ulie’s neck. She could not see him, of course, but she felt his breath grew stronger and warmer. She expected to feel him lustfully kiss her neck or even bite at it but all he did was slowly run his ajar mouth from her trapezius to her ear, skimming her skin with his soft lips, exhaling loudly.
Ulie’s body quivered. Oh my stars! Is it supposed to feel like this?! I’m gonna faint before it’s over!
Xeres’s voice in her ear interrupted her thoughts. “Eva’s scolded me for toying with you,” he whispered. “Then I guess it’s time I stopped playing around and got down to serious business.” He gripped her hips tightly and pressed his lower body against hers, heaving a sigh. Ulie’s eyes opened wide in surprise: she had felt something rather unusual, new and… hard rubbing against her butt. She knew what was supposed to happen with the bodies of both the man and the woman in such a moment – her mother had told her all about it so she would not be ‘surprised like she was the first time’ – but theory and practice were two totally different things!
Unaware of Ulie’s inexperience, Xeres lowered his mouth to the base of her neck and delicately kissed a spot Ulie had never thought was so sensitive! She could feel his warm lips burn gently through her skin, lodging new sensations in her belly. Still not sure if she was fully awake or not, the teenager simply abandoned herself in the moment, letting her head fall back until it rested on Xeres’s shoulder. The town crier let out a loud sigh and picked up the pace a bit, kissing Ulie’s neck with a little more hunger and pressing himself against her butt hard enough for her to feel unequally paced throbs against it.
“Oh my stars,” she murmured without even noticing.
Xeres replied with a soft moan and his lips suddenly retracted on his teeth which he gently scratched Ulie’s neck with. His hands slid up away from her hips and ventured higher on her waist, dragging her shirt upwards in the process.
Ulie reached a point where she feared her legs would just give in right under her and she would fall down the hill when the moment was abruptly interrupted by the sound of the shelter’s door opening behind them.
In a flash, Xeres had stepped away from Ulie who felt simply too dizzy and overwhelmed to react. When Krek reached the other side of the tall grass, he saw Ulie standing in front of him like she was taking in the décor and Xeres was sitting a little further to the right, playing with a blade of long grass, like nothing had happened.

A day gone by...

Very short message today as the day has already flown by without me noticing!

I did not write much today but I intend to spend most of tomorrow on reaching the next milestone: 70k words!
The book is nearing the end (80k words). So far, I've got like three more scenes I wanna cram in there that will connect the dots between the Ulie's first fight scene and the steamy scene I've already posted here and then, it's a wrap... Well, a first draft wrap anyway! :P
Still will need some proofreading and some beta-reading! ^_^ (Got my beta-readers ready and super excited about it!! Makes me SO happy!!!! :D Like, my book is already good enough for them to eagerly await the moment they'll be able to devour it whole! ^_^ Thank you so much, girls!)

So, there's no word count worth mentioning today and let me see if I can dig up an excerpt from what I wrote yesterday....
Yeah, I can give you a little something to munch on. :)
We're really nearing the end!! (The first volume of Terra Fae is called Onlath which is the continent where all the characters live. The second volume is called Wairu which is the name of the second continent they will have to cross to reach Terra Fae. Sooooo... Yep, you guys guessed it right: once they leave Onlath, the novel is over! And now, they're pretty close to it! ^_^)
Happy reading!
----------------------------------

The group left soon after while the sun was still early rising in the sky.
“We should get to the docks sometime this afternoon and from there, we will embark on a vessel that will bring us to Wairu,” explained Nimë.
Ulie felt excitement tingle in her head: Wairu? Really?! She was going to see the Wild Continent? She, the predictable, boring teenager was really going to embark on such an amazing journey?! She was going to witness decors she thought she could only see in her dreams! The desert plains, the savannah, the boiling lakes, the snow-covered mountains… She was going to see Wairu!!
Had she been alone, she probably would have run or skipped all the way to the docks but seeing as she was in public, she kept her excitement to herself.
Everyone stepped in a line and they entered the forest. Around noon, hands looked in bags for the leftover meat from breakfast and passed it around, never stopping the march, as if eating was a simple matter of fueling up the engine.
The group walked fast and conversations were kept to a minimum. Oddly, Ulie did not mind the silence today for she had enough of her thoughts twirling in her head without adding the thoughts of the other members of the group. She spent most of the time trying to choose which crush she would pursue but ended up giving up with a not-so-cheery thought in the likes of ‘Why do I bother? Neither of them is interested in me anyway.’
Feeling her mood drop, Ulie stepped behind Hane and the others as they started to climb a grassy, small hill.
“The docks are on the other side,” informed Nimë, panting under the effort.
Once atop, they all saw that she was right. Forest may be stretching behind them but in front of them – at about fifteen minutes walking distance – was the vast ocean… and what was left of the western port.
Charred buildings and sunk boats sticking out of the water stood where the docks were supposed to be.
“Uh… Nimë?” asked Ulie. “Is this –”
“No, it’s not normal!” barked the pretty woman.
      The whole gang ran down the hill and towards the burnt down, deserted area, hoping to find survivors or, at the very least, an explanation for all of this! But soon, it dawned on them that they would never know… and that they had no more way of reaching the Wild Continent!

Another milestone!

Oh my goodness, I did it!!!
I thought I would never manage to reach the 65k milestone since I have to leave much earlier today on account of the painting class and a snowstorm that would make it much more difficult to get there... So I opened my document this morning thinking 'Ok, I'll just write whatever I can, no matter how far I get." And still, I DID IT!!!
I broke the 65k barrier!!! :D
I wrote 1 031 words this morning and I've reached 65 001 words total!! :D (Ok, I'm siting on the barrier but still, I made it to it! ^_^)

I don't have much time to plan for an excerpt so I'll just post the scene you've already read, Rach. Sorry... You can re-read it and swoon some more at Quint if you want! ^_^

Alright, I'm off! Be good! :P
Byebye!
---------------------------------------------------

     But the happy feeling fleeted away very fast when she crossed Quinton’s gaze again: he knew!
     “Nimë said that, the reason she told you about it was to ease your mind… Now, I may be ‘just a guy’, supposedly far less complex than a woman, and stars know how you girls can be a real enigma to me, but if I’m not mistaken, you have something you’d like to tell me.”
     Wrong, thought Ulie. I would never want to tell you! She pretended to take an interest in what the others were doing around the clearing but Quinton grabbed her chin between his thumb and his index finger and raised her face toward his, forcing her to look at him. He held her really close to him, invading her space as the town crier would, but the fire burning in his stunning grey eyes had nothing to do with the wild one she had seen in Xeres’s eyes! It was… kinder, more empathic. Hurt, even?
     Still, she was astonished to find that, even though Xeres and him were really different, she wanted them the same way.
      And once again, the wish for a kiss resurfaced. But it looked like, once again, Ulie would not get it for all Quinton did was talk.
     “Look,” he said to her, his breath softly brushing her lips, “I’m not a nice guy to fall for." He tied his gaze to hers. "I don’t shelter a kind and pure heart like yours. I can be an awful lot of bad news… You can ask Hane about it! I don’t have a nice past and stars only know what kind of future I’ll get. I… spell trouble. You’re better off with someone else. Trust me.”
     OK, if he doesn’t know women all that well, thought Ulie, how is it he knows exactly what to say to make us wanna kiss him?!
     She could have just let the moment pass by but a thought entered her mind: had she not just told herself that it might be time for her to forget Xeres? Quinton was something else. He was more… adult. He probably would not be interested in an inexperienced, naïve little teenager. Perhaps it was time to act more mature. And adults aren’t afraid of anything, right? Adults don’t let thoughts bother them or hold them back. Adults act.
     Maybe it was time for Ulie to put her fears of rejection, her thoughts of ridicule and all other teenage matters aside. Maybe it was time for Ulie to act…
     She lowered her gaze at Quinton’s lips and sketched a move forward, clearly signifying her intention of kissing him. With his face so close to hers and her chin held between his fingers, there was no way he did not get the message!
     He moved in closer; he had indeed gotten the message!
     Ulie’s eyes widened in surprise. Oh my stars! He’s going to kiss me!
     Quinton closed his eyes.
     Oh my stars! Oh my stars! Oh my stars!
     But he let out a loud sigh and simply let his forehead thud against Ulie’s.
     “I’m serious,” he said. “I’m bad news… And so is Xeres.” He opened his eyes and dove deeply into Ulie’s gaze. “Stay away from us.”
     He was not kidding around. His words did not sound like a demand or a request: they were an order, plain and simple! And to show how serious he was, Quinton quickly backed up and walked away. Ulie noticed that, unlike with Xeres, when Quinton abandoned her after teasing her she was not aching… She simply felt angry at him for some reason. She had half a mind in running after him, tripping him to the ground, sitting on his chest so he could not walk away anymore and forcing a kiss on him! There! No more teasing and wishing and hoping and anticipating...!
     But Hane and Kaylia were back with breakfast. Ulie sighed her anger away. A little food will get my mind off of things.

Where did all the hours go?!

Today was a tiring day... but all in all, a rather good one too!
My day was made of:

  1. chatting (which is always a lot of fun with my friend Rachel! ^_^ But now, she's discovered I've got 'mojo' apparently and she said I'm in trouble... Eep.);
  2. having my weird, yelly neighbor knock at my door early in the morning while I'm still in my PJs and ask if she can borrow toilet paper (.........whatever);
  3. calling and leaving messages and receiving phonecalls about our broken oven that needs some fixing (I *hate* to talk on the phone! So four phonecalls for ONE problem is more than enough for me, thank you!);
  4. writing some difficult scenes (a lot of emotions today: another sexy scene, an answer/scolding scene, one 'Am I normal?' teenager scene and one sobfest, please!);
  5. being informed that a friend/coworker of my boyfriend bought us tickets to The Hobbit as a Christmas present totally out of the blue (the gesture touched me a lot! Yeah, I know, I'm emotional like that...);
  6. fighting with a jerkface of a cat that refused to adhere to his evening schedule routine (which includes brushing him and all that taking-care-of-him jazz);
  7. ordering Mexican food that took forever to get here (seriously! one and a half hour on a Tuesday night!! What do they do on Saturdays?! Needless to say the food was cold);
  8. and almost getting into a fight with my boyfriend whom not getting our food drove into a really grumpy mood (well, both him and I but all is fine now).
(And for the past twenty minutes, my stomach has been complaining about those 'Camarones a la diabla'.......! Oy...)

So, phew! I'm exhausted and will simply crawl into bed and pass out soon :P
But before that happens, I have promised you guys the second half of that fight scene I wrote yesterday and I *will* deliver! :D But first, some numbers: I wrote 3 324 words today (I seem to have an average of 3k words a day!) which brings me to a grand total of... 63 970 words!! :) I can see the 65k milestone approaching and I have every intent on crossing that barrier tomorrow but, as Rachel and I have learned: no plan makes for a good plan! Cause, you know... sometimes, life happens! So we'll see! ^_^

Until then, here's that excerpt! Hope you guys will like it! ^_^  'Night!

-----------------------------------------
(So, you remember where we left? Ulie was trying out weapons to find out which one would suit her best... She's been 'defeated' -- and feeling slightly humiliated -- by Quinton. Ok, I will back up a bit in the text just so guys aren't dropped off in the middle of an ongoing scene...... Well, that's the official reason for it. The unofficial one is that Xeres is fun to 'look' at! ^_^ *straightens her back and tries to look serious* Yeah, well... *clears throat* Happy reading!!)

“Maybe a smaller weapon, like Kaylia’s short saber or Reizu's dagger…” started Hane.
“Or maybe she’s not a weapon-wielder at all,” suggest the town crier’s voice from behind Ulie. “Maybe she’s a fist fighter. Like Eva!”
Ulie slowly turned around. Xeres jumped down the table and adopted a combat stance a few feet away from her.
“Let’s try that, shall we?”
Ulie suddenly got torn between crying and throwing up her breakfast’s content. How was she supposed to… touch him?!
For the first time ever, seeing as he was kind of drawing all her attention to himself while being shirtless, Ulie allowed herself to really detail him. He had black, wavy, damp hair falling in front of his dark blue eyes, a straight nose with a wide tip standing between high cheeks and just above a mouth made of a sharply-shaped upper lip and a thick bottom one that, for some reason, Ulie suddenly thought would be fun to bite… A strong neck and a stone-chiseled upper body supported that handsome head. Muscles could be seen bulging under his skin at the pectoral, abdominal and upper arms regions.
And his pants held way too low on his hips…
The simple idea of fighting Xeres… The simple idea of him hitting her back… The simple idea of his half-naked body pressed against hers…
She could not do it!
Feeling her cheeks blushing violently, Ulie forced her thoughts onto something else, anything else!
“Hey, we got some other things to do sometime today so you’re attacking me or not?” he taunted her.
But she could not bring herself to it.
“Look, if you don’t attack me, I will attack you so… your choice!” he warned.
Everyone was watching her reaction. If she did not want to make her attraction for Xeres too obvious for all of them, she should probably react right about now.
Slowly, almost reluctantly, Ulie adopted a combat stance copied on Xeres’s. I cannot believe I’m doing this, she thought, on the verge of crying in panic. He was going to enter her personal space again…
But then, something happened.
Was it sympathy? Kindness from the Universe whispered to her ear? Or a very perceptive eye? Whatever it was, something moved Eva to come to Ulie’s rescue.
“You know, you’re very intimidating like that, showing off your muscles” she scolded Xeres while sliding down the table. “Plus, it is a known fact that men are generally stronger than women – physically anyway. You could really badly hurt an inexperienced girl like her! It’s best if you let me do it.”
She took a few more steps and stood between Xeres and Ulie.
“Pfff, whatever,” scoffed the town crier before heading back to the table.
Facing the teenager, Eva adopted the same combat stance as Xeres with a smile. Was it a friendly, empathic smile… or a mean, victorious one? Ulie could not decide.
“Come on,” she said. “Attack me!”
“What…?” asked Ulie who could not believe what she was hearing. Was Eva really inviting the teenager to kick her ass?! OK, that would probably never happen since the thief was a far more advanced fighter but still, it would be nice to vent some of that hate Ulie had for the woman!
“Come on!” insisted Eva. “Hit me!”
This time, Ulie was the only one smirking. “With pleasure,” she responded for herself.
And balling up her fists, condensing all her rage, her feelings of uselessness, her jealousy and hatred for the thief, Ulie ran toward her enemy.
She did not even need to scream as she was doing so; Eva still noticed the anger in her opponent. She quickly changed her stance to something sturdier that could withstand the oncoming blow.
And Ulie hit her, head on.
Unleashing all her bottled up feelings, Ulie attacked Eva with a strength she did not even know herself capable of. Fists, elbows, knees, feet… even her teeth were looking for a way to harm the gorgeous, sexy, intelligent, skilled, useful thief! Everybody froze at such a display of pure hatred! Quinton and Xeres were the first to react, stepping closer to separate the girls but Eva stopped them.
“Don’t!” she yelled from under Ulie’s attack. “Stay back! Let her be!”
The men exchanged a look but obeyed in the end and walked back to the picnic table where the rest of the gang was staring at a surreal scene: Ulie that had always seemed so sweet and vulnerable was actually sheltering an unbelievable amount of rage!
            Noticing that the surroundings were clear so she would not hurt anybody else, Eva finally counterattacked. In two very precise, quick and sharp moves, Eva used the palm of her hands to hit Ulie in the belly, forcing her to bend forward, and then on the top of her right shoulder, making her fall flat on her ass but inflicting no real damage whatsoever.
            Feeling humiliated some more, Ulie stood up and charged again. Eva sidestepped and playfully slapped Ulie’s butt as she went passing by, dragged forward by her dash. As everyone openly giggled, Ulie had never felt so ready to burst with anger in her life. Tears of rage blurred her vision.
            “I don’t know why you’re so mad at me,” claimed Eva, “but as long as you’ll attack out of anger like that, I will best you. Focus! Use that fire to see clearly, to sharpen your senses and to concentrate your strength!”
            Ulie had half a mind not to listen to that bitch but in the end, the perspective of maybe defeating her – or at least succeeding in hurting her – became stronger.
She paused.
            It was not a particularly long pause, more like the one that preceded the Cinder’s fight in the City’s street the day before. And just like back then, Ulie felt something snap inside of her. For that mere second, the world stopped existing. There was no picnic table. No Sython’s team, no Hane, no Krek, no Quinton, no Xeres… There was no pain, no death possible.
            There was no uncontrollable anger anymore.
            Ulie’s heart slowed down. Her cheeks cooled off and all of her muscles unclenched. A peaceful resolve rose along with an incredible amount of strength; the teenager could feel it pulse in her veins.
            She blinked. Once.
            That’s all she did in that moment. And when she reopened her eyes, the tears were gone. Ulie could see Eva clearly in front of her and she could calculate at an incredible speed the best possible way to inflict maximum damage according to the position the thief was standing in.
            She charged.
            To her, it seemed like she was running in slow motion and that they would all see her coming, but awkwardly, no one else was moving. It was like they were frozen. That was the momentum she had been waiting for!
And as if it was the most natural thing for her body to do, Ulie jumped in the air, drew her right leg back against her chest, then let it spring out the way she saw Eva do it with her punch, like a cramp letting go. And she managed to stamp her right heel on Eva’s left cheek.
Still at super slow speed, Ulie saw the thief’s head fly to the side, dragging the rest of the her body after it while Ulie was pulled back down by gravity and landed on her feet in total control of her balance!
Ulie was standing.
Eva was on the ground…
The surroundings grew eerily quiet. No one dared react, not even the teenager! Handersen’s words were what shook everybody out of their lethargy. He spoke pretty much everyone’s mind, exclaiming: “What the hell just happened?!”
Half of the group hurried to Eva’s side while the other half stared at Ulie with disbelief, aversion and a hint of fear painted on their faces. The teenager suddenly realized what she had done and starting feeling really bad until a laughter rose from the group crouching a few feet away from her.
They all stood up and Ulie saw that it was Eva laughing heartily.
“Now that was a hell of a kick!” she complimented the teenager while rubbing her sore cheek. “She’s indeed a fist fighter,” she informed the group. “And a damn good one too!” she winked at Ulie.

Better than expected!

So! As I said yesterday, I did try to devote most of today to writing. Worked fine for the most part but inspiration was reluctant to visit me... Actually, I ended up understanding what the problem was: you see, a while back, I had this awesome scene planned out where Ulie got to learn fighting so she wouldn't feel useless anymore should another fight arise! (And also a bit out of jealousy towards Eva who's such a good fighter and so close to Xeres... Grrrr! hihi)
For like three days, I've been pantsing my way between my last scene (the fight against the Cinder) and that scene. I ended up being bored and couldn't bring my word count up because of that... So I just went on with the brackets trick and skipped directly to the scene I wanted to write! Which turned out to be a lot of fun!!! :D
So it'll be my excerpt for today! ^_^ (Well, since it's a very long scene, I'll post half of it today and the other half tomorrow! hihi)

In numbers: I wrote 3 276 words and I *almost* reached my "fake" par of 61k for I am at 60 646 words! (I might write some more tonight... We'll see.) Still! Happy! ^_^

Also, today was a very special day for me as I got to relaunch my official website WITH AN ENGLISH SECTION!!! Woohoo!!! :D Here's the address if you wanna take a peek: www.valerielarouche.com Pretty easy to remember uh? :P

For the occasion, I completely redid my French blog in the image of this English blog because I think it's so pretty! ^_^ And I got to write a French post there where I listed my ongoing projects. I liked it so much (I found it so exciting and rewarding) that I will paste it here too, in the Dreams tab! ^_^ Have a look at if you'd like!

Well, time for an excerpt! ^_^
Happy reading!
-------------------------------------

Ulie woke up to a bright morning. Her stomach was empty and complaining so she grabbed a whole cantaloupe out of the icebox and devoured it. She was clearly alone in the hideout but she did not mind. It was nice to have some peace, no pointless morning small talk, no one invading her personal space… It reminded her of her morning routine at the tavern before everything went south. Finishing her breakfast, she took a few steps outside. The air was brisk but the sun was shining in a cloudless blue sky, warming whoever and whatever stood in its path. Ulie stretched with her eyes closed, breathing as much as she could from those last golden rays before winter really kicked in. She felt her blood rush in her veins, waking her body up and bringing energy to it.
She opened her eyes and looked around. The area looked much better in the daylight! The new hideout was standing atop of a grassy hill, overlooking forests on the eastern, southern and northern sides of it, but the western side was gently rolling down to a narrow sandy beach. And beyond that, the ocean was stretching on the horizon from south to west.
The hideout’s entrance was facing the east and all Ulie could see were forests to a great distance. The trees just down the hill were bare and sad, but the grass still displayed a light shade of green that made the world seem so peaceful.
It was one of those mornings you just found yourself thankful to be alive to witness!
With a lazy smile on her lips, Ulie took a few steps around the hideout when fighting sounds came to her ears! Were they being attacked?! Ulie raced towards the sound, hitting down the southern side of the hill… only to find Hane, Krek, Quinton and Sython’s team sitting around an old picnic table, watching what turned out to be the most horrible sight Ulie had ever seen: Eva and Xeres were training to fight.
OK, to anyone else, it probably was not really that bad to look at, but for the teenager, seeing Eva wearing nothing but pants and a sports bra while Xeres wore nothing but pants… Seeing those two shirtless, sweaty, writhing bodies clutching at each other punched a hole in her stomach.
They were slender and well-built. They were taller than her. They were muscular, agile and strong. He was handsome, she was gorgeous.
They made sense together… and they threw Ulie’s inadequacy right in her face.
Tears of rage climbed to her eyes at great speed as she started to feel nauseous.
“Hey, look who’s up!” exclaimed Hane, noticing the teenager. The sitting gang turned around to greet her. “Want some breakfast?” added the hybrid woman designating what was probably Krek’s morning catch cooked.
“Er, no thanks,” replied Ulie with her stomach on her lips. “I ate some fruits inside. Why are they training?” asked Ulie as casually as possible, trying not to look at the two.
Fortunately, the fighters were far enough (and busy enough) not to hear her conversation.
“It’s Eva,” replied Hane. “She said she felt kinda rusty fighting that Cinder. She’s a thief so she mostly steals stuff and rarely has to fight.”
“Rusty?! She held her ankle by her ear! I saw it!”
Hane shrugged, signifying she did not know any more than that. Ulie gritted her teeth; it was probably one of the Eva’s tactics to get physically close to Xeres! She was cheating!! She knew very well that Ulie could not fight and hence, she took advantage of that situation to earn some higher points in the eyes of the town crier!
As well as pressing her body against his in the process…
Ulie wanted to cry. Giving up on ever “seducing” Xeres was an option (well, as much as a plain girl like myself could seduce anyone, she thought), but Ulie was stubborn. And right there, she balled her fists and took a deep breath, resolved: she was not going to give up without a fight. Literally!
“Teach me how to fight,” she ordered in a grave voice.
“What?” replied Hane who clearly had not heard the teenager’s words.
“I wanna learn how to fight too! I don’t want to spend all my time on the side lines, waitin’ for someone to save my ass! I want to be able to defend myself so teach me how to fight!”
Everyone was looking at her, even the two fighters, panting. Ulie felt kind of embarrassed at all this attention she was getting, but she had enough being pushed aside. She had made up her mind and no one was going to talk her out of it.
Her thoughts were probably obvious to all as they did not even try to convince her to reconsider.
“Alright,” agreed Hane. “Learning how to defend yourself is not a bad idea. Might actually save your life!”
The others seemed to agree with Hane’s reasoning.
“OK,” accepted Quinton. “Here! Take this.”
He handed Ulie his scythe and went to grab Xeres’s blades set aside on the grass with his jacket, his shirt and his vest.
The scythe did not feel all that heavy in Ulie’s hand but looking at the curved blades, she was wondering how to manoeuver such a weapon.
“Attack me,” said Quinton.
“What?”
“We gotta find what kind of fighter you are, which weapon suits you! Let’s try the scythe.”
Ulie obeyed. Lifting her weapon with two hands, she ran towards Quinton, ready to hit him on the head. After all, he probably could defend himself, right?
But when the time came to lower the scythe, it seemed to be caught in a gust of wind or something, slicing on all sides instead of falling straight! Quinton had no trouble evading the attack without a single thrust of the blades he was holding. He simply stepped to the side and let Ulie sort of fly away behind her seemingly uncontrollable weapon.
“This oughta be fun,” smirked Xeres. He climbed and sat on the table itself, tearing a piece of the breakfast animal.
Ulie glared at him but all he did was stretch an even larger smile while chewing at the piece of meat. Don’t mind him, thought the teenager, he’ll only distract you. Concentrate!
 “This drives like a heavy leaf caught in an updraft!” she gave as an excuse. “Couldn’t I try with a sword or something normal at first?”
“Right,” agreed Handersen, giggling. “Here,” he added, unsheathing his weapon and handing it to the teenager who almost fell flat on her face as she grabbed it. This thing was heavier than a barrel of beer! Everyone openly laughed at the situation which only made Ulie madder. Were they ridiculing her on purpose?!
“Give me something I can lift!” she growled.
“Here,” said Kaylia, handing Ulie her long saber.
The weapon was light and sat well in the hand. A few twists of the wrist and Ulie felt in control of it. Perhaps…
“Alright,” chuckled Quinton. “Attack me,” he invited once more after dropping Xeres’s blades on the table. He had removed his long red coat and was holding his mean-looking scythe again with just one hand! Sure, his left shoulder was still a bit injured, rendering his left hand kind of weak, but still! The weapon was heavy and difficult to control; Ulie had just tried it. Two hands were a minimum requirement and yet, Quinton seemed perfectly at ease. In fact, he was even displaying a roguish kind of smile that Ulie had never seen him do before.
He looked purely dangerous!
Ulie suddenly felt doubt… Maybe she was not that much of a fighter after all! What if she really got hurt?
“Look, if you never try, you will never know,” encouraged Quinton. “Come on! Attack me.”
Well, he was right; the teenager could not argue with that. She shrugged and obeyed. After all, with Hane, Kaylia and Nimë around, someone was bound to be able to heal her injuries quickly, right?
Ulie swooshed the weapon down, aiming for Quinton’s head but he lifted his scythe just in time to block the attack. The blades clank loudly and Ulie felt the vibrations all the way up her arm. With a movement of his wrist, Quinton pushed Ulie’s saber away from him which forced the teenager to stumble a bit to the side.
A few of the onlookers giggled. Ulie peeked a quick glance at Xeres from the corner of her eyes and he was still looking rather amused which made her only angrier. Worse: Eva had climbed on the table next to Xeres and was smirking at Ulie too.
She turned to face Quinton again, her blood pulsing to her ears and she charged once more. Quinton blocked the attack like before only, this time, he skillfully moved his wrist, catching the saber’s blade in the curved one of his scythe, twiddled around it a couple of times and with a thrust, pulled the weapon out of Ulie’s hand, sending it flying into the woods.
  “Raah, nice going, jerk-head!” exclaimed Kaylia while heading to find her saber but Quinton did not pay any attention to his cousin.
“So?” he asked Ulie. “How did that weapon feel?”
“Are you humiliating me on purpose?” she yelled in a low voice so only Quinton and her could hear.
“Whoa! Relax. Look, the goal today is to find you a weapon. You won’t defeat any of us right from the start!” he informed.
“Maybe a smaller weapon, like Kaylia’s short saber or Reizu’s daggers…” started Hane.
“Or maybe she’s not a weapon-wielder at all,” suggested the town crier’s voice from behind Ulie. “Maybe she’s a fist fighter. Like Eva!”
Ulie slowly turned around. Xeres jumped down the table and adopted a combat stance a few feet away from Ulie.
Muscles could be seen under his skin at the pectoral, the abdominal and upper arms regions.

(Note: Lately, I watched an old movie and found an actor that pretty much embodied the image I had of Xeres in my head! So here, for those of you who needed a better look at my sultry town crier... Is he yummy or what? ^_^)

Sundays aren't off days!

Inspiration struck back!
After a good nine hours night sleep, I woke up a little less tired than the previous days.

But if inspiration was here with me today, so was the boyfriend :P
I love him a lot but yeah, gotta be honest, he can be a distraction from writing. Oh well, no matter: I had a very fun day playing like six games of Castles of Mad King Ludwig (totally awesome boardgame that my boyfriend just got for his birthday! ^_^). But in between all those games, I managed to write a little 983 words. I'm now at 57 370 words.

My awesome writing buddy Rachel and I planned a whole day of writing tomorrow as if it was still NaNo. We even set a fake par of 61k words! So we'll write together with Skype sitting between us and cheer each other on as the words pile up in our documents!
I'll let you know how that turns out! ^_^
As for an excerpt, here's a little piece of text cause it's late already and I've gotta hit the hay!
Context: after Eva fought that Cinder in the street, Ulie felt embarrassed and useless again. Seeing anger on the face of those who had to butt in to save her life once more, she ran off. Eva went after her. Now, Hane, Krek, Quinton and Xeres are back to the thieves' hideout and wait for the girls to return.
Happy reading! ^_^

-----------------------------

Unaffected by the day’s events, night descended on the City once again. At the hideout, Krek had woken up but Hane was still resting. The three men were sitting around the kitchen’s table where the stolen document had been spread out.
            “So… Nobody knows how to translate that thing?” asked Krek.
            “No,” replied the two others.
            “Don’t you know someone that could?” questioned Quinton to Xeres. “You know everyone, apparently.”
            “Well, historians are not my forte. I play in the underground, remember?”
            “Pfff! What good are you?”
            Xeres stretched a proud, toothy smile when the entrance door creaked open. The three men bounced out of their chairs and piled up in the narrow hallway. Eva came in, followed by Ulie.
            “Where the hell were you?!” scolded Quinton.
            Twice in a day that he had yelled at Ulie… He was really turning into a big brother! Or perhaps, he was adamant about the guardian duty Holly Braser had hired him for. Money might be a good incentive for him. After all, he was born to a rich family!
            “On a quest for information,” replied the teenager, proudly. “That document you got, it’s a fake.”
            “What?!”
            “That doc we stole,” explained Eva as if the concept was difficult to grasp, “it’s not a real one. Apparently, it was forged by a woman named Nimë.”
            Eva looked at Ulie like she wanted to get her approval and Ulie nodded.
            “Yep! I’ve found Nimë at the mansion,” she added. Everyone walked back to the kitchen’s table as Ulie was telling her story. “I didn’t even have to go in; she was getting ready to leave with Handersen and Kaylia and Reizu. But I got there on time, pulled her aside and we talked. I guess she trusts me… She told me everything: they are going on a quest for Terra Fae and she wrote that document herself a while ago on the mayor’s demand. To fool his brother, apparently.”
            “Me?!” exclaimed Quinton.
            “No, not you. The other one…”
            Everyone sat down.
            “Oh… Eryu’s in on this?”
            “Well, I’m guessing he doesn’t know the document is a fake, but yes, apparently, he’s getting ready to launch his own team on the search for the Lost Land.”
            "Wow, this quest is becoming very popular..." commented Krek.
            “Ok, how is anyone going to get there if nobody has a map?” asked Xeres.
            “Well, according to my source,” answered Quinton, “Eryu butted in at a Counsel’s meeting and claimed that Sython had a map…”
            “He does,” acquiesced Ulie. “Only it’s not a piece of paper…”
She had everyone’s attention and savored this moment as long as she could. How’s this for usefulness? she thought, glaring at Eva.
“Well,” pressed Quinton, “if it’s not a piece of paper than what is it?”
After another pause for effect, Ulie dropped the bomb: “It’s Nimë.”
